Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is a small country located within Southern Africa, bordered by South Africa and Mozambique. It is a landlocked country covering an area of roughly 17,000 square kilometres. It has a diverse landscape from mountains to thick mopane forests to open grasslands. Temperatures in Eswatini are pleasant year-round, summer falls between the months of September to April, winter falls between the months of May to August.

The average daily temperatures are moderate ranging from 12° C to 26° C (53° F to 78° F) in the summer months, and the winter months range from 5° C to 20° C (41° F to 68° F). The majority of sunny days per month fall within the dryer winter months, making winter a wonderful time to visit Eswatini.

Eswatini has a moderate rainy season which runs during the summer months of October to March with the majority of rains of around 220mm (8in) of rain falling between December and February each year.
National Parks and the best times to visit:
There are three main national parks in Eswatini, all run by Big Game Parks, as well as some smaller parks. Although the country is small, it is divided up into a few different climatic and geographical regions, the highveld, middleveld and lowveld. The highveld is located on the western side of the country, the middleveld in the middle, and the lowveld to the eastern side. While the temperatures throughout the country are moderate, during the summer months the temperatures in the lowveld can reach highs of 40 ° C (104 ° F).
Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary – Located in the western part of the country and close to the capital city of Mbabane. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary can be visited all year round, the wetter months from November to March provide lush green forests to explore and the birdlife is wonderful, summer temperatures range from around 10 to 30° C (50 to 86° F). The winter months are better for game viewing as the vegetation is not as thick and wildlife is easier to spot, winter temperatures range from 10 to 25° C (50 to 77° F).
Hlane Royal National Park – Located in the northeastern side of the country, this park is home to the largest herds of wildlife in the country. Hlane Royal National Park is a great year-round destination with temperatures ranging from 9 to 28° C (48 to 82° F) throughout the year. Summer months can get quote hot during the peak of the day, but the mornings and evening are pleasant temperatures. Winter mornings can be quite chilly but as the day goes on the temperatures warm up.
Mhkaya Game Reserve – Located in the central eastern part of the country, this game reserve is home to the only populations of buffalo, sable, eland and tsessebe in Eswatini. Mhkaya Game Reserve can be visited all year, however the winter months are advisable as the reserve is located in the lowveld where summer temperatures can sometimes reach 40° C. Winter months are also much better for wildlife sightings. The average temperatures in winter range from 9 to 24° C (48 to 75° F).
