About Savanna Private Game Lodge

This unique private game reserve is situated in the world renowned Sabi Sand Game Reserve, that borders on South Africa’s famous Kruger National Park. Savanna is the epitome of a fully inclusive and diverse African wildlife and cultural experience, from memorable and exciting big game viewing, a nostalgic voyage into the pioneering era of the early settlers and founders of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, to a fascinating insight into the local tribal customs of the Shangaan people. Accommodation

Savanna’s tented suites combine the romance of a tented roof and draped inner ceiling with the sophistication of permanent structures that ensure absolute luxury and privacy. Three top of the range Executive Suites each have their own private swimming pool, indigenous garden area, are fully air-conditioned, have bathrooms en-suite that include double wash hand basins, enclosed toilets, a unique double shower and a beautiful ball and claw Victoriana bath.

The four Luxury Suites are of equal standard, however, exclude the private swimming pool and double shower. Pure cotton linen with hand embroidered wildlife designs, and top quality beds are standard. Rustic reed blinds, coir carpets, a draped canvas ceiling and built in lounge area with bolsters and scatter cushions, all combine to create the most luxurious tents in Africa.

Facilities

From the comfort of the lodge, guests may view some of Africa’s impressive wildlife as they come down to drink. The central facilities include a dining room, lounge, bar and wooden deck, all overlooking a waterhole where some of Africa’s impressive wildlife come down to drink. Full English breakfasts and lunches are served on the open air verandah, and dinner is either served in the starlit boma, or in a unique South African Railways dining carriage, built in 1914. The bar stocks an impressive array of quality South African wines, as well as a large selection of beers, spirits, and soft drinks. A small portion of the old Selati railway line, in near proximity to Savanna is home to this historical carriage, and times of a bygone era are reminisced on board this beautifully restored carriage. In between game viewing activities and meals, guests may relax around the swimming pool or browse through the curio shop.

Safaris at Savanna

Savanna traverses over ten thousand hectares of pristine African bushveld where frequent sightings of Africa’s big game occur during early morning, late afternoon or evening game drives. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile plus a multitude of general game and over 450 bird species may be viewed from the comfort and safety of the open game drive vehicle. Game drives are conducted by professional and extremely well qualified game rangers and trackers, who are experienced, and knowledgeable on all aspects of the bush. Two state of the art landrovers are used for game drives and have been expertly modified to ensure your safety and comfort. The afternoon game drive is purposefully interupted for sundowners to witness an African Sunset, and the absolute peace and quiet of the bush. Optional walking safaris are conducted daily, in order to experience the beauty and fascination of Africa’s flora and fauna. Bush dinners and bush breakfasts are optional.
